September has two big downtown weekends, a very dog-heavy Saturday, live music, a book event and a couple of quieter plans. These are the ones I’d keep on the radar.
The three I’d look at first.
The big downtown September weekend: live music, German food, a Kids Zone and the festival setup along Burlington Avenue.
Downtown fills with juried artists, live music and a children’s art area. Easy to pair with lunch or coffee and stay as long as you feel like.
Agility, a splash zone with foam, pup cups, pet vendors, food and a DJ. This one is actually built around the dog instead of just allowing them to tag along.
Two Way Street’s Friday-night series brings in Joy Clark for an intimate folk-and-soul set. Doors open at 7:30 PM, and the suggested donation is $10.
The creators behind Beware the Sock Monkeys! are doing a presentation, Q&A and signing at the Downers Grove store. Pre-registration is required because space is limited.
BBQ, beer and country music at Fishel Park. Food and beverage sales start at 5 PM; Wildwood Country plays from 6–7:30 PM.
Pinecone Cottage is doing a seasonal two-hour tea built around its garden-to-table menu as it marks 25 years in downtown Downers Grove.
The locally owned running store now has a Downers Grove location at 5229 Main St. The shop is open, and its grand-opening fun run/walk is Saturday, Sept. 19 at 8 AM.
The weekend shortlist goes out Thursday afternoon.
