Five Worth Leaving the House For

01
DETOUR OF THE WEEK

Schaumburg Septemberfest

SATURDAY–SUNDAY · Sat–Sun 10 AM–10 PM · SCHAUMBURG

Schaumburg’s flagship Labor Day festival fills the municipal campus with major live music, food, rides and family activities.

Best for Families, groups, live-music fans and anyone who wants one big festival to anchor the weekend.
Why it made the cut This is the strongest all-around free festival pick: big enough to justify the drive, easy to understand, and genuinely substantial without an admission ticket.
The catch: It will be crowded, and attraction hours vary inside the larger 10 AM–10 PM festival window.
02FREE

Naperville Jaycees’ Last Fling

FRIDAY–SUNDAY · Fri 5–10 PM; Sat–Sun 10 AM–10 PM · NAPERVILLE

Naperville’s Labor Day weekend festival combines live music, carnival rides, food, family attractions and downtown energy.

Best for Families, groups, teens and anyone who wants a downtown festival with music and rides.
Why it made the cut A reliable big-weekend option that works for multiple kinds of people instead of forcing you into one narrow activity.
The catch: Free admission does not make the carnival or food free, and downtown parking will take more planning.
03$108–$614

Snoop Dogg with Neal Francis (DJ set)

FRIDAY · 7:30 PM; public gates 5 PM · HIGHLAND PARK

Snoop Dogg headlines Ravinia Friday night with Neal Francis performing a DJ set.

Best for Snoop Dogg fans, adults and groups planning a bigger Friday night.
Why it made the cut The clear splurge pick for people who want a major-name concert rather than another festival or tribute band.
The catch: This is one of the most expensive options in the guide, and live ticket inventory can change quickly.
04FREE

Frankfort Fall Festival

SATURDAY–SUNDAY · Craft show Sat–Sun 10 AM–6 PM · FRANKFORT

More than 300 artisans, food, carnival rides and live entertainment take over downtown Frankfort for Labor Day weekend.

Best for Adults, families, shoppers and anyone who likes large street festivals.
Why it made the cut This is one of the few suburban festivals that feels like a destination even if you do not care about the music lineup.
The catch: The event draws very large crowds; some Garden programming and optional parking cost extra.
05$21 / CAR

Sounds of Summer: Second Hand News

SATURDAY · 7–9 PM · WHEATON

Fleetwood Mac tribute Second Hand News plays Cantigny’s outdoor Sounds of Summer series Saturday night.

Best for Couples, adults, groups and Fleetwood Mac fans.
Why it made the cut A strong lower-cost date-night or group option because one vehicle fee covers the whole car instead of charging per person.
The catch: The concert is outdoors and the $21 charge is per vehicle, so solo visitors get less value than a full car.
