A shorter path to something worth doing.
The Local Detour is an independent guide for people who want better Chicago-suburbs plans without sorting through endless event calendars and generic lists.
What The Local Detour covers
Weekend events, family outings, date ideas, live music, bigger suburban shows, seasonal guides and local finds across the Chicago suburbs.
What makes it different
The goal is not to publish everything. The Local Detour narrows the options and focuses on plans that are actually useful, distinctive or worth the effort.
How recommendations are chosen
Cost, age fit, travel effort, parking, timing, weather exposure, hidden catches and the strength of the underlying event all matter. The full editorial approach is explained on How I Choose.
Editorial independence
Paid coverage is labeled. Affiliate relationships do not determine what gets featured, and a paid relationship does not buy an undisclosed recommendation.
Accuracy and updates
Event details can change. The Local Detour links to organizers whenever possible and updates current guides as material changes are verified.
