The Local Detour Local Giveaway

These rules apply to The Local Detour’s recurring local-business giveaways. The current giveaway page identifies that giveaway’s participating business, prize, approximate retail value, opening and closing times, and any prize restrictions. Those posted details are incorporated into these Official Rules.

1. Eligibility
Open to legal residents of Illinois age 18 or older who live in the Chicago suburbs or surrounding Chicagoland communities. The Local Detour does not use a rigid suburb list or ZIP-prefix cutoff. Entrants self-certify local eligibility when entering, and The Local Detour may verify a potential winner’s residence before a prize is awarded. Employees or owners of the participating giveaway partner, and members of their immediate households, are not eligible for that partner’s giveaway.
2. Giveaway period
Each giveaway’s opening and closing date and time are posted on the current giveaway page before entries open. Entries received before the opening time or after the closing time are not eligible.
3. How to enter
Submit the free entry form at LocalDetourGuide.com/win/. One base entry per person and email address for each giveaway. Newsletter subscription is optional and is not required for a base entry.
4. Referral bonus entries
After submitting a valid base entry, an entrant receives a personal referral link on the giveaway page. The entrant may share that link by copying it, using a device sharing feature, or opening the entrant’s own email application. The Local Detour does not require the entrant to provide friends’ email addresses.
One bonus entry is earned for each new eligible local reader who uses the entrant’s personal referral link, submits a valid entry in the same giveaway, separately chooses to subscribe to The Local Detour, and becomes an active subscriber. Sending or sharing a referral link by itself does not create a bonus entry. Referral bonus entries are capped at five per entrant per giveaway. Existing subscribers, self-referrals, duplicate or fake addresses, automated signups, disposable addresses and other fraudulent activity do not qualify.
5. Prize
Each giveaway awards the prize described on the current giveaway page. The participating local business, prize description, approximate retail value, any applicable expiration date and any other restrictions are posted before entries open and are incorporated into these Official Rules. A prize has no cash alternative except where required by law.
6. Winner selection and notification
After a giveaway closes, The Local Detour uses a secure server-side random selection from all eligible chances. The potential winner is contacted at the email address used to enter and must satisfy eligibility requirements before the prize is awarded. Unless a different response period is stated on the current giveaway page, a potential winner has 72 hours to respond. If the potential winner is ineligible or does not respond in time, an alternate may be drawn.
7. Odds
Odds depend on the total number of eligible base entries and qualified referral bonus entries received for that giveaway.
8. Privacy
Information submitted for a giveaway is used to administer the promotion, prevent fraud, contact the winner and measure campaign performance. Newsletter emails are sent only when a person separately opts in or is already subscribed. Giveaway partners do not receive The Local Detour’s entrant or subscriber email list. Giveaway entry and referral records are generally retained for up to 12 months after a giveaway ends and then deleted or de-identified. Aggregate campaign statistics and winner/draw audit records may be retained longer for recordkeeping.
The referral sharing tools do not ask entrants to submit friends’ email addresses to The Local Detour. If an entrant chooses “Email a friend,” the entrant’s own email application opens with a draft invitation. The Local Detour does not receive the recipient’s email address unless that person later chooses to submit information directly through the giveaway or another Local Detour form.
9. Platform disclaimer
These promotions are not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Nextdoor or any other social platform on which they may be promoted.
10. General conditions
The Local Detour may disqualify entries that are incomplete, automated, fraudulent, abusive or otherwise violate these rules. The Local Detour may suspend, modify or cancel a giveaway if technical failure, fraud or circumstances beyond reasonable control materially affect fair administration.
